Laparoscopic Extraperitoneal Herniorrhaphy Using a Peritoneal Distention Ballon

Abstract

|
This report describes a laparoscopic prosthetic repair of inguinal hernias through an extraperitoneal approach using a peritoneal distention balloon. A total of ten hernias were repaired in this series, including one bilateral and one recurrent
hernia.
Patients ranged from 34 to 75 years old. One patient reqired conversion toan open repair. Operation time was less than 80 minutes in primary and unilateral hernias. Complications occurred in two patients, including a subcutaneous emphysema and a
postoperative neuralgia. Patients returned to usual activity within one week. No recurrence has developed to date.
This extraperitoneal approach appears to be s simple and effective alternative in laparoscopic repair of inguinal hernias.
